One Choice: Obama

Be afraid, be VERY afraid…

Gov. Sarah Palin said something quite revealing tonight during her debate with Sen. Joe Biden. She said that the Constitution allows for the vice president to have more authority over the Senate and that she thinks the VP should be given more power. Friends, if that is not proof positive that her candidacy is being engineered by the Cheney Neocons (a la Vladimir Putin handpicking Medvedev as his successor), I don’t know what is.
With her very alluring aw-gee-shucks personae geared to draw in dimwitted Americans hurt most by the past eight years of Cheney, uh I mean Bush leadership, this woman is something we should all fear. Very much! She has the potential, far more than distant bin Laden, to be a genuine threat to our freedom. (Which by the way, according to her, is not something that we pass on “in our blood stream.” WTF???)
Palin did an excellent job tonight spewing forth the talking points that were “Drilled Baby, Drilled!”  into her brain. She went to another place though, to the babbling brook of Couricland where her nouns are in search of verbs, whenever she was asked to respond specifically to an answer by Biden. Then it was, let me talk about my energy policies and experience as an oil and gas regulator. Huh?
I thought Biden was shaky out of the gate, stumbling over his words a bit, but once he got his composure he addressed systematically and quite effectively her negative talking points about his and Obama’s record. I loved when Biden pointed out that three weeks of spending in Iraq is more than we’ve spent on the entire campaign against al-Qaida in Afghanistan. And I especially loved how he pointed out that Dick Cheney was the most dangerous vice president in history.
Palin, in typical GOP fashion, made up her own rules and decided which questions she would answer, which ones she would ignore to go on a talking points spree. And you gotta admire the pithy GOP spin. Didn’t you just love how she admonished Biden for “just too much finger-pointin’ backwards.” Translation: Ignore the failed Bush policies behind the curtain of the past eight years. ”Change is on the march!”
What I found also scary was the beauty pageant happy blank stare that Palin flashed at the split screen camera whenever Biden was talking. See, I’m not like McCain. I’ll look ya in the eyes. But all her winking at the crowd and aw shucks, guess I’m glad to be a Washington outsider coyness made me wonder was this live or was I watching the Fey parody of it the following Saturday. I’m not kidding.
Of course both had moments of nerves, and stumbled a bit. Palin made my favorite quote of the evening about her running mate when she mistakenly said: “He is the man we need to leave.” Biden couldn’t have said it better.
One last talkin’ point from me to ya. Sarah, let me ask Pat Sajak if I can buy you a G, ’cause darlin’ you can’t be bringin’ straight talk to the people who have been cravin’ it without one at the end of your gerunds. Darn tootin’!

Scourged by Couric?

In her series on questions asked the vice presidential candidates, tonight Katie Couric asked what were the best and worst things that Dick Cheney has done in office. Here are their replies:

BEST THING CHENEY HAS DONE
Biden:
He has the courage to stand up for his beliefs, even if it’s unpopular.
Palin: He’s supported the troops alongside President Bush.
WORST THING CHENEY HAS DONE
Biden:
Showing callous disregard for the Constitution and advocating things such as torture.
Palin: Shooting that guy in the face while duck hunting.

The criticism heaped on Couric for scourging Palin with tough questions is ridiculous. It’s interesting to see what an experienced, intelligent answer can be. God help us if we fall victim to a Joe Six-pack administration.
